The listing this week of several rare and fabulously preserved rooted Mosasaur teeth, Original root, an exception to the rule, a unique fossil discovery from Morocco, N.Africa. The best in their class of Mosasaur fossil teeth finds from the phosphate beds near Khouribga. Condition report: completely stable in the hand, original root and crown. Superb dentin/enamel, mahogany colour. Life wear to the tip of the crown, mesial and distal carinae, this could be life wear or fossil bed wear. Otherwise the colour and sheen of the enamel patina is fine. Excellent morphology impression of preceding tooth to root stock. A marine creature with immense and powerful jaws, preying on other marine reptiles, ammonites and large nautili. This is part of a group of marine reptiles which attained great size in the Cretaceous before becoming extinct, for runners of the great sharks and cetaceans which filled the gap they left in the world’s oceans.
