Vintage, bevel-matted print removed from a book of drawings (Dogs as I See Them) by Lucy Dawson, published in 1937 Title: UNTITLED Breed: SEALYHAM DOG AND PUPPY Artist: Lucy Dawson, signed in plate (read about about this artist below) Condition: Excellent/Perfect—Bright, white, no creases, tears or folds and good margins. A REALLY LOVELY IMAGE. [NOTE: THE PRINT HAS NO GREENISH TONE AS IN PHOTO.] This engraving is about 75 years old and guaranteed to be original. It’s an authentic old print from a book of drawings, and NOT A REPRODUCTION. The print is 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. Matted the print measures 8″ x 10″. This is a standard size mat that will fit into a standard size frame—no costly custom frames required. About The Mats All of our prints are bevel matted in a very high quality, and simple off-white matting. The backing also meets the same high quality standard. About Lucy Dawson Lucy Dawson, also known as “mac,” was a preeminent illustrator of the 1930’s-40’s and her prints have become much sought after by discerning collectors and animal lovers. Lucy Dawson was best known for her series of dog postcards, sketches and books for the publisher Valentine’s and Sons. She worked in pencil, pen, ink and oil, but was mainly known for her work in pastels. Her pastel portraits are simple, focusing upon the dog either seated or lying down. There is little clutter in the background which keeps the focus upon her canine subjects. Her cat cards and prints are much scarcer.
